That is a bad thing to hear, but good news so that we are prepared.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p>There is a method that one can use in case you forget your password on Linux (case scenario here) Ubuntu.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, when you are still on GRUB boot loader, you can get there. This is how to do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On boot, access Advanced options<\/li>\n<li>Choose recovery mode for the relevant kernel(you will see some text scrolling up. Just wait a moment&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li>Choose the option &#8220;root&#8221; or &#8220;Drop to root shell prompt&#8221; (You are now root on your system)<\/li>\n<li>Change your system from read-only to writable using the following:\n<pre><span style=\"color: #008000;\">mount -n -o remount,rw \/<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Now type:\n<pre><span style=\"color: #008000;\">passwd username <span style=\"color: #000000;\">(replace username with yours).<\/span><\/span><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>You will be prompted, to enter Unix password twice.<\/li>\n<li>\n<pre>A<span style=\"color: #008000;\"> \"password updated successfully\" <span style=\"color: #000000;\">message will appear if all went well.<\/span><\/span><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>You can now reboot and use the new password using: &#8220;<span style=\"color: #008000;\">reboot<\/span>&#8221; command.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure style=\"width: 720px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/i1-news.softpedia-static.com\/images\/news2\/How-to-Log-In-Ubuntu-Without-Knowing-the-Password-460864-4.jpg\" alt=\"root\" width=\"720\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A screenshot of the process.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But remember, I said something back about using a <a title=\"The sudo safe ALTERNATIVE on UBUNTU\" href=\"http:\/\/btdesigns.geosolutionskenya.com\/linux\/the-sudo-safe-alternative-on-ubuntu\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">sudo alternative<\/span><\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Video below shows how to set it, and plus it can save you from the above if used as a hack&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1o4hRAwCEAQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Post your thoughts&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just found out that I can access my Ubuntu Desktop without my password.
