If it holds, we\u2019ll be looking at a device that has <em>at least<\/em>\u00a0the following specs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>4.5-inch screen (qHD resolution @ 540\u00d7960)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1.3 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7\u00a0(MediaTek)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Mali 400 GPU\u00a0@\u00a0500 MHz\u00a0(MediaTek)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>8GB eMMC Storage<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1GB RAM<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>2150 mAh Battery<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Dual micro-SIM<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>RRP \u20ac149 (Android model)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>&#8220;2015 Is A Realistic Figure&#8221;<\/h5>\n<p>If we take the word of\u00a0Rodrigo Prado, deputy manager of Bq, it sounds a little unlikely. His words:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span class=\"notranslate\">\u201cThe development of an operating system is a very complex task. I think there are only three companies in the world [that has]\u00a0its own mobile operating system.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"notranslate\">As we square the\u00a0hardware\u00a0over\u00a0software\u00a0quality equation, we get the terminal.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"notranslate\">It will be a 4.5-inch\u00a0smartphone\u00a0much like [the] Aquaris.<\/span>\u00a0<strong><span class=\"notranslate\">Ubuntu set a date of\u00a02014, but [<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">I] think 2015 is a realistic figure.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u00a0But as tech industries have sometimes shown cunningly, surprise is an element we cannot rule out.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ubuntu have been working on this device for longer than we can all remember. The OS has gone through hundreds of necessary bug fixes and tweaks. That in itself gives me confidence of a solid piece of device worth the Kenyan shilling.<\/p>\n<p>Another upside for Ubuntu is the large number of applications already available even before the first phone is realized to the mainstream market. At a staggering figure of 150,000 and growing rapidly as I write this.<\/p>\n<p>There is a worry that it may now be a wave in the current competitive environment of Oppo, Samsung, OnePlus, Nokia, iPhone,&#8230;.. name them. But if there is one thing I believe in is that new tech with relevance makes waves FAST!
