According an affiliate source in the UK, bq Readers may e gearing up for some new 3 fantastic new product. The date for the BIG announcement has been set for 25 November.
Waiting is not what I can do but have to do.
There are no specific details as to what is going to be part of the announce but, am having a feeling, I may include the well awaited #UbuntuPhone premiere.
Aquaris E4.5 aka the Bq Ubuntu Phone
Bq signed up as an official partner with Canonical (company behind Ubuntu) sometime early this year.

The Aquaris E4.5 is a decent phone, but not standout. If it holds, we’ll be looking at a device that has at least the following specs:
- 4.5-inch screen (qHD resolution @ 540×960)
- 1.3 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 (MediaTek)
- Mali 400 GPU @ 500 MHz (MediaTek)
- 8GB eMMC Storage
- 1GB RAM
- 2150 mAh Battery
- Dual micro-SIM
- RRP €149 (Android model)
“2015 Is A Realistic Figure”
If we take the word of Rodrigo Prado, deputy manager of Bq, it sounds a little unlikely. His words:
“The development of an operating system is a very complex task. I think there are only three companies in the world [that has] its own mobile operating system. As we square the hardware over software quality equation, we get the terminal. It will be a 4.5-inch smartphone much like [the] Aquaris. Ubuntu set a date of 2014, but [I] think 2015 is a realistic figure.”
But as tech industries have sometimes shown cunningly, surprise is an element we cannot rule out.
Ubuntu have been working on this device for longer than we can all remember. The OS has gone through hundreds of necessary bug fixes and tweaks. That in itself gives me confidence of a solid piece of device worth the Kenyan shilling.
Another upside for Ubuntu is the large number of applications already available even before the first phone is realized to the mainstream market. At a staggering figure of 150,000 and growing rapidly as I write this.
There is a worry that it may now be a wave in the current competitive environment of Oppo, Samsung, OnePlus, Nokia, iPhone,….. name them. But if there is one thing I believe in is that new tech with relevance makes waves FAST! The the OnePlus for example.
